FC Alliance squad captures fourth state title
Another year, another state championship. This has to be the motto for one of FC Alliance's most explosive teams: the 98 Boys Black. Coach Jon Schneider's squad won three consecutive games at the state tournament to once again grab the coveted honor of being Tennessee's best. This honor is nothing new for the team; they've won it four out of the last five years. Their dominance in the state has now propelled them to a birth in the National League, which is reserved for 16 of the best teams in the country.
This year, the state tournament wasn't without a challenge. After outscoring Tennessee United and TSC Premier by a combined score of 8-2 in pool play, the 98 Black faced a powerful TSC Elite in the finals. The two teams have been back and forth for years, as their rivalry is no secret in the state of Tennessee. Rock solid defending and a creative attack pushed FC Alliance to a 2-1 win, as they refused to concede the crown. It was also sweet revenge. 98 Black’s only Premier League loss came to TSC Elite just two weeks earlier.
It has been a fruitful year for the team. Not only did they win their third consecutive state championship, they have suffered only one defeat in the ten-team Region 3 Premier League Central division. Along the way, they’ve swept state champions and finalists from both Louisiana and Mississippi.
98 Boys Black is an automatic qualifier for the Region 3 tournament in June.
