Girls Director of Coaching|ECNL Director
At Charleroi High School, and California University of Pennsylvania, Josh Gray is known as one of the all-time great players. After all, he is the all-time leading scorer at Charleroi, a three-time all-state player and a member of the area All-Sports Hall of Fame; while at California, he was named both all-conference and academic all-conference. He brought a successful club pedigree to both schools: six state cup championships, two regional championships and three regional finalist finishes playing for Penns Forest and later Beadling Soccer Club.
Fast forward two decades and Josh Gray is known for a different type of accomplishment: one of the region’s most successful coaches. FC Alliance’s Girls Director of Coaching has coached teams to eight state championships, two region finals, and five region semifinals, with three of his players receiving national team call-ups. His teams have won the Disney Showcase 5 times, CASL Showcase 8 times, Las Vegas Showcase 4 times, Ohio Elite Showcase 5 times, Blue Chip Showcase 3 times, Crossroads Showcase 4 times, PDA Showcase 2 times, and they have grabbed a championship at the nationally prestigious Jefferson Cup, Surf Cup, and Orange Classic.
These successes has earned Gray roles as both an Olympic Development Program head coach and as a staff member of Nike’s ID2 program. Most impressively, however, is the vast list of players Gray has coached and mentored in his 21 years as a coach. He has coached some of the top teams in the history of FC Alliance: 93 Black (boys), 94 Black, 95 Black, 96 Black, 97 Black (boys), 99 Black, and currently one of the nation’s top teams in 00 Black. Few people in the coaching community will forget the 95 and 96 Girls Black teams, in which 35 of the 37 players ended up playing college soccer. Former players can be currently found at major Division 1 programs across the country, including multiple players at Tennessee, Arkansas, MTSU, Texas, Pitt, Rutgers, Belmont, Western Carolina, Austin Peay, UTC, and many others. All told, over 200 former players have gone on to play college soccer in conferences such as the SEC, ACC, Big 12, Conference USA, the Ivy League and more.
A fan of all Pittsburgh sports, and Liverpool FC, Gray was also a high school and college kicker. However, his true passion has always been with soccer, as he has made it a lifelong goal to build the sport from the youth level. Josh is married to Angie Gray and they have two children, Savannah and Owen. Owen currently plays for FC Alliance in the 04 age group.
