The 96 Girls Gold traveled to Cincinnati over Spring Break and experienced opponents with the same demeanor as the Ohio March weather: unfriendly. Fortunately for Coach Jeff Wolfenbarger's team, they shook off aggressive teams and wet weather and claimed the 2011 Adidas Turf Classic championship. The final came down to penalty kicks, as the 96 Gold won in a thrilling shootout against Ohio's Lakota Fury. Although it took a complete team effort, goalkeeper Katie Cottrell was the hero. She not only made stops in the shootout, but also allowed just one goal in four games.
