Protecting one’s house is paramount in sports. In the annual Southeast Academy Classic in Knoxville last weekend, two FC Alliance teams did just that. The 01 Girls Red and 00 Girls Black were champions of their respective divisions, as each squad won four games to secure a title. By winning the tournament, each player earned one of the traditional jumbo trophies the club awards to tourney winners. More importantly, both teams received a boost heading into the travel season.
For the 01 Red Girls, taking the title was somewhat of a relief. Their first championship of the year comes after two consecutive finalist finishes. The team ended the fall season by losing in the championship game of the CESA tournament in two rounds of penalty kicks. Their first championship of the year comes after two finalist appearances, and the coaches are extremely enthusiastic about the direction of the team.
The 00 Girls Black also took home a much needed tournament championship. The team has played an extremely difficult scheduled over the past year, including an October trip to the WAGS tournanament in the Washington D.C. area. Although very competitive in every event, Coach Shane Moore’s squad needed some hardware for their efforts. This past weekend, they got just that.
